Read more31st PNAA National Convention, an Overwhelming Success!
The 31st PNAA Annual Convention was held last June 23-27, 2010 at Miami, Florida. It was a successful and fruitful convention of the year. Different delegates from different states came to attend the convention.
The theme for one week convention was Reflections of PRISM: Achievements and Future Directions. PRISM stands for Professional Linkages, Regulatory and Legislative Agenda, Interagency Collaboration, Services and Program Development, and Managing Organizational Resources. The Education Day theme was inspired by PRISM: Reflections and Future Directions
. The PNAA achievements were showcased by SCR Vice Presidents from different Regions. The speakers were Merlita Velasquez (SCR), Josephine Villanueva (Western Region), Sofia Bole (North Central), and Victoria Navarro (Eastern region). The message of Connie Barden, eICU Director of Baptist Health System, related to Bold Voices was encouraging. Dr. Camacho from St. Barnabas Heart Center in New Jersey highlighted different mechanical valves and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). She shared her expertise related to latest trends in Cardiovascular Innovations. The very informative topic related to Management of Diabetes Mellitus was delivered by Dr. Jerry Ciocon, Medical Director, and Department of Geriatric Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Florida. Dr. Luz Porter, Professor, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Florida International University shared her expertise in Advanced: Practice Nursing (APN): Service, Program, and Research Development. The afternoon sessions of Education Day enlightened the attendees with various trends and issues in healthcare. Dr.Dula Pacquiao, Associate Professor and Director, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Nursing, delivered the topic on Using PRISM to achieve Social Justice and Population Health Globally. Dr. Leticia Hermosa, PNAA Legal consultant, discussed “Global Health Economics: Emerging Trends and Implications for Nursing. Dr. Joyce Fitzpatrick, Professor at Elizabeth Brooks Ford, School of Nursing, delivered a challenging speech related to Engage and Make a Difference. Overall, it was a very enriching, revitalizing and fulfilling Leadership and Education Day.
The “International Year of the Nurse, 2010” was also celebrated during the convention. The parade of nurses wearing International costumes made the Networking Night colorful and fun. After a long stretch of educational activities, seven limousines awaited the delegates outside the Hotel InterContinental for an evening of dinner shows at South-Beach Mangoes. Some delegates decided to listen to the South Beach music and engaged in dancing, while others simply enjoyed the breeze and the moonlit sky at the South Beach bay.
The memorable GALA ceremony was held to recognize the contributions of the nurses in different fields of Education, Research, Informatics, and Community Service. The speeches of the PNAA President Leo-Felix Jurado and the PNAA President-Elect Dr. Rey Rivera, brought excitement and inspirations to the members of the PNAA. The turn-over ceremony of the hosting chapter, PNASF, headed by Josephine Villanueva to the new host chapter in California was very memorable.
Indeed, it was a very successful 31st PNAA Annual Convention. The spirit of teamwork, networking, collaboration, and cohesiveness were evident during the convention. The PNAA and the hosting PNASF did an excellent job in creating scholarly, high quality education for the attendees. The experiences of the attendees in Miami Convention will be cherished. PNAA will strive hard to deliver quality education and activities to promote excellence in nursing and clinical practice. The newly inducted President of PNAA, Dr. Rey Rivera, will challenge and engage every member of the PNAA to grasp the importance and application of evidenced based practice and quality improvements to enhance PNAA activities and make a difference.
The attendees are expecting another memorable, educational, and fruitful experience in the forthcoming, 32nd PNAA Annual Convention to be held in San Francisco, California in 2011.
